Healthy Christmas Treats: Vegan Protein Truffles – Fitmas Series

healthy christmas treats Vegan protein truffles

Protein balls become protein truffles this month because Fitmas is in the air! Give these healthy Christmas treats a go if you’re looking for a home-made and protein-packed snack that will satisfy your sweet tooth.

Healthy Christmas Treats for Peanut Butter Lovers

These vegan protein truffles are mainly made of dates, peanut butter, cacao and vegan protein powder. The whole recipe contains 105g of protein (it may vary based on the brands you use) and I made 10 truffles, which is 10.5g protein per unit. Pretty decent protein-packed snack!.

I used the Peanut Butter protein from Vive, which I previously mentioned in my Carrot Oatmeal recipe. They’re a plant-based and 100% natural protein brand that is worth a try! Especially if whey protein tends to upset your tummy or makes you bloated, you might want to try a vegan protein.

Now let me just tell you that there’s nothing wrong with enjoying some real Christmas truffles and other holiday foods. But if we start eating like it’s Christmas now, we might not feel super fit by the end of the month. That’s why I made these healthy(ish) pre-Christmas treats.

Peanut Butter & Chocolate Protein Truffles Recipe

Ingredients

  • 70g Peanut Butter
  • 50g Vive Vegan Protein Powder
  • 10 Medjool dates
  • 80g oats
  • 40g unsweetened cacao powder (+ some more to roll the truffles in)
  • Around 40ml almond milk

How to make these healthy Christmas treats?

Blend the unpitted dates in a food processor. Add the peanut butter, protein powder, almond milk, cacao and oats. Blend again until obtaining a smooth but thick mix.

At this stage my recipe almost turned into a protein mousse. I put too much milk and the consistency was too soft to make truffles. If this happens to you just let it thicken in the freezer for a few hours/overnight. Saved it.

Then just use a spoon to form around 10 to 12 protein truffles and roll them into cacao powder (or pistachio, coconut… anything you want!).

Store them in the fridge and enjoy your Xmas protein snacks!
